This Privacy Policy describes how the Chrome extension "PageWise AI" (the "Extension") handles user information.

1. Our Principles

PageWise AI is designed with privacy as a core principle. We do not collect, transmit, or store any personal data on external servers. All data processing occurs locally within your browser.

2. Data Stored Locally

The Extension stores the following data in your browser's local storage (chrome.storage.local):

Your AI provider settings (provider type, model selection)
API keys you provide (encrypted, stored only in your browser)
Chat history and page index cache
User preferences and settings

This data never leaves your device and is not accessible to us or any third party.

3. Data We Do NOT Collect

Personal information (name, email, address)
Browsing history or tracking data
Page content you analyze
Your AI conversations
Cookies or cross-site tracking
Location data
Any data that could identify you

4. External Communications

The Extension communicates with external services only when you explicitly initiate an action:

Your chosen AI provider: When you send a chat message, the Extension sends your query and relevant page context directly to the AI provider you configured (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic). This communication uses YOUR API key and goes directly from your browser to the provider. We are not an intermediary.
ExtensionPay (payment processing): For Pro license purchase and verification. Payment is processed by Stripe. We only receive confirmation of purchase status.

5. Local AI Processing

If you use a local LLM (Ollama, LM Studio), all processing — including page analysis and chat responses — happens entirely on your device with zero external communication.

The in-browser RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) pipeline, including text embedding and vector search, always runs locally in your browser regardless of which AI provider you use.

6. API Keys

Your API keys are stored in chrome.storage.local and are never transmitted to our servers. API requests go directly from your browser to the respective AI provider.

7. Data Deletion

You can delete all stored data at any time by:

Using the "Clear Data" option in the Extension settings
Uninstalling the Extension (all data is automatically removed)
Manually clearing extension data in Chrome settings

8. Third-Party Sharing

We do not sell, share, or provide your data to any third party. We literally do not have access to your data.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Significant changes will be communicated through extension updates.
